It has been said that Life is a journey and not a destination. This is also true about understanding the nutitional needs of our own bodies as well as for our four-legged companions. Everyday there will be another piece of knowledge gained, another piece of the puzzle discovered.

Reading

We have found the following books written by vets, animal nutritionists and other knowledable folk about feeding a raw food diet and other thoughts on the nutritional needs of our pets to be very helpful. We ourselves don't follow every bit of advice verbatum, however well presented or argued, but it is all informative and well worth reading at least once :

  • Give your Dog a Bone – Ian Billinghurst
  • Grow your Pups with Bones – Ian Billinghurst
  • Natural Nutrition for Dogs and Cats, The Ultimate Diet – Kymythy Schultze
  • Holistic Guide for a Healthy Pet – Wendy Volhard and Kerry Brown
  • Raw Meaty Bones – Tom Lonsdale
  • Dogs in Canada magazine – Canadian Kennel Club - Most issues have at least one article that focuses on some aspect of canine nutrition

If you find you are feeling confused or overwhelmed with information and options regarding the raw diet feel free to contact us for some suggestions on what other resources might be good for you.

We are always reading "doggie" related books of all kinds and so here are some suggestions for general reading about dogs that we just found interesting or informative or just plain fun;

  • The Truth About Dogs – Stephen Budiansky
  • The Danes of Send Manor – Robert Heal

Viewing

We don't intend this to be a sort of best films ever compendium, but more of a list of lesser know moives that we have found along the way. Hopefully you will also find them to be interesting or fun or informative and worth seeing ... at least once :

  • Quill – Capri Films
    • We took this DVD out of the library the other day and while it is a bit "quirky" and sad in places it was overall a very nice story about the life of a seeing-eye dog in Japan. Warning, it is in Japanese with English subtitles. Released in 2006

  • TV New Zealand

for other books / articles / videos that you like.
